Lehman College, City University of New York Student Group Receives Prestigious Award from World’s Largest HR Association!

On June 14, 2019, The Lehman College Student Chapter of SHRM was awarded the Superior Merit Award for its excellence and achievement in providing superior growth and development opportunities during the 2018-2019 Student Chapter Merit Award period.

“Awarding this Superior Merit Award designation is just one small way for SHRM to recognize and celebrate the big steps the Lehman College, CUNY SHRM student chapter has taken this past academic year,” said Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM-SCP, president and chief executive officer of SHRM.

Given this accomplishment, The Lehman College Student Chapter has won five (5) consecutive SHRM Awards: 2018-2019 Superior Merit Award; 2017-2018 Merit Award; 2016-2017 Merit Award; 2015-2016 Honorable Mention Award; and 2014-2015 Honorable Mention Award!

As noted by our Faculty Advisor, Professor Shirley D. Bishop, “Award recognition from the Society of Human Resource Management is not an easy endeavor.  Planning and implementation of SHRM activities and programs have to occur on an annual basis.  Merit Awards are then granted based on the number of activities and programs each student chapter executes.  Most of our student leaders are working full-time and are upholding personal family responsibilities while taking college courses and maintaining good academic standings.  However, they still found time to serve the Campus community and the HR profession with excellence!”
