Internship Opportunity at Assembly member Herman D. Farrell's District Office:

Herman D. Farrell District office is looking for interns with a mature, professional demeanor who are efficient, organized and self-motivated to serve in my District Office. Internship opportunities are available throughout the fall, spring and summer semesters. Although they are unpaid, graduate students are provided with valuable work experience in local government and may receive course credit during their time with us.

District interns will observe the daily administering of services to constituents, in addition to other activities that are central to my work in the Assembly. Social justice issues such as education, affordable housing and legal justice are some of the issues that are important to our office and our constituents. We are an office of enthusiastic individuals who work hard to serve constituents and make them feel at home.

Interns will be able to interact with various level of government and will gain experience in representing the Assembly member in the community. Some intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to assisting with Assembly events, attending community board meetings, research for constituents, answering phones, writing letters and other administrative office duties. Spanish language skills are not required, but extremely helpful. Students should also display strong communication and administrative skills.

The hours are flexible to accommodate students' hectic course schedules, but office hours generally run from Monday to Friday, 9:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. Also, please note that most events and meetings are held after these hours. While they are not required, it would be beneficial for interns to have some of their nights open to be in attendance.

To be considered for the position, please email your resume, cover letter, and a writing sample that does not exceed 3-pages to taylora@assembly.state.ny.us . The email should include the semester you plan to begin, your start and end dates and times of your availability.
